Protected: CPRE North & East Yorkshire objects to proposed gas drilling at Foxholes
A proposed gas exploration wellsite threatens the character, tranquillity and environmental sensitivity of the Yorkshire Wolds.
Egdon Resources is seeking planning permission to construct a temporary wellsite for gas exploration at land north of Butt Lane, near Foxholes, in North Yorkshire. CPRE North & East Yorkshire has strongly objected to the proposal and is calling on North Yorkshire Council to refuse planning permission.
What’s being proposed?
The proposal would involve creating a temporary industrial wellsite on around 1.3 hectares of agricultural land, followed by drilling and testing to investigate whether gas is present underground.
The application also includes associated equipment, vehicle movements, lighting and site infrastructure, followed by restoration of the land.
Why is CPRE objecting?
After reviewing the application, CPRE North & East Yorkshire has submitted a strong objection to the proposal.
We believe the development would cause unacceptable harm to the rural character and tranquillity of the area, create significant traffic and operational impacts, and raise unresolved concerns around water resources, the Yorkshire Wolds landscape and climate change.
What happens next?
The planning application remains with North Yorkshire Council, which will determine the outcome. The council’s planning register currently shows the application as awaiting responses to consultation.
