Hedgerow Detectives

4th May 2022

The ‘Hedgerow detective’ lesson plans have been developed for Key Stage 1 and 2 children. During these lessons, they will learn about why hedgerows are important and how they help the environment.

Pupils will also learn about the animals and plants that live in hedgerows. We have developed teachers’ notes for both key stages, as well as fun worksheets for the children to complete. CPRE has developed these lesson plans in collaboration with Countryside Classroom.

Suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils, children will learn about:

  • the importance of hedgerows and how they help the environment;
  • the animals and plants that live in hedgerows.

‘Hedgerow Detective’ prize draw for primary schools!

CPRE is running an exciting prize draw, with top prizes for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and three runners up for each.

The prize for Key Stage 1 is a 25-piece Nature Detective Set which will help students collect and examine a wide range of mini-beasts and aquatic species.

For Key Stage 2, the prize is a Wildlife Corridors Challenge Kit.

There are three runners up for each Key Stage too, which is a fun and educational animal habitats game where children can compare animals in familiar habitats with those in less familiar habitats. Winners will also receive a copy of ‘The Happy Hedgerow‘ children’s book by Elena Mannion.
